A Note from the Founder
The Lost Art Project began with a simple belief: every veteran has a story worth preserving.
During my 25 years in the United States Marine Corps, I had the privilege of serving alongside people whose experiences, lessons, humor, sacrifices, and memories deserved to live far beyond the moment they were shared. After retiring, I became increasingly aware of how easily those stories can disappear.
A veteran passes away. A family realizes they never asked the questions they meant to ask. A story that was told around a kitchen table for decades is suddenly gone.
We can't recover a voice once it's been lost.
That realization became the foundation of The Lost Art Project: Veterans’ Voices.
Our mission is to collect, preserve, educate, and inspire by recording veterans in their own words and preserving their experiences for their families, future generations, historians, researchers, and the American public.
This isn't about creating polished versions of military service. It's about preserving the real thing—the victories and failures, friendships and losses, laughter and hardship, ordinary days and extraordinary moments that together make up a veteran's experience.
Today, that mission has grown far beyond a podcast.
Through our Veteran Stories, FireSide Chats, Historical Archivist Program, Veterans’ Voices Archive Network, and Veterans’ Voices Research Portal, we are working to build a lasting home for these voices and make them accessible long after we're gone.
But at the center of everything we do is still one veteran, sitting down and telling their story.
